Gilgamesh

Got back from India and then went straight out for...an Indian! Well, to be fair, we thought it was an Indian but it actually turned out to be Thai! We went to Gilgamesh, a well-recommended restaurant in Camden. We had the best table in the house - a circular one, up on a plinth...fantastic! We had some friends over from Phoenix and also met up with J & P. interestingly enough, the "Fonz" was in there as well!

40,000 feet above Poland

Well, finally back en route to home - do I really want to keep doing this? Night upon night in hotel rooms in countries I wouldn't choose to visit if I was paid to. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy travelling, just not for work and without those I love. I think it's probably time for me to rethink what I'm doing - perhaps something with
less travel, more pay? We'll see...

Anyway, I'm in the World Traveller Plus cabin and the flight is pretty good. Two movies down, two meals down and an hour or so from landing.

All good...

Finally

I get an upgrade! At long last and approximately 200,000 combined airmiles, I have just officially been upgraded to World Traveller Plus! OK - I know it's not exactly First but it will make the flight home MUCH more enjoyable.

I'm just sitting in the Kingfisher First Lounge in Delhi and it's pretty cool actually. Lots if modem furnishing, decent coffee and (at last) free wi-fi...

After having curry solid for the last four days I'm looking forward to something non-spicy. Only problem is we're going out with some friends tonight for...an Indian!

Indian Mission Statements

There must be a blog somewhere that captures Indian mission statements and the roadsigns. For example, to try and get some lane discipline:

Keep sane - stay in lane
Use your brain - stay in lane

The above picture was taken from a fast food restaurant!

Back in India

Arrived into Delhi last night for a week in India. I'm staying at the IBIS Gurgaon again which is where I stayed the first time I came out here. Hotel hasn't changed but the surroundings have - it's much more developed now and even has a KFC next door.

Have to say that the wildlife hasn't altered much...

Harrow

Just spent the day in Sudbury Hill. An hour on the tube, 30 mins on the overground and I'm about 20 miles from the front door...sometimes you really should just look at a map!

Shoeburyness Beach

We decided to head to the beach as it was a (reasonable) day. Not brilliant but not raining. We worked out that Southend is probably the closest to us - however...what we didn't realise is that it was also Southend Air Show that day. Of course, the beach was therefore closed! We carried on round the coast about and chanced upon Shoeburyness. It wasn't until we left that we realised you could not take dogs on! Chief loved it...his first time on sand and the sea - a little unsure at first but then in with all four paws!

South Africa

Just after I came back from Israel, I then had to travel to Johannesburg for a week. I've been before but there's something about Jo'burg that makes me uneasy. Last visit was a couple of years ago when they were preparing for the World Cup. I think they had a lot of migrant workers in then because this time round I didn't feel as uneasy - you still have to be on your guard mind!

I stayed in Sandton at the Holiday Inn and flew with South African Airlines. Both were good.

The food has to be the highlight though - I've still yet to have prawns quite like the South African ones. This time as well, we also went to a restaurant called Carnivore - was exactly what it said on the tin...lots and lots of meat!
