Back in vienna

I seem to spend more time in Vienna airport than any other nowadays. It's like the gateway to everywhere! This trip I've been to Austria then Slovenia then Austria then Slovakia and then back to Austria. All in the space of two days...

Last night we were invited out by the team who had arranges the conference I'm speking at. We walked around the town of Ptuj , apparently earmarked for the 2012 European Capital of Culture. It's a nice town with some interesting spots. Very old as well, it can trace it's heritage back to roman times.

We went up to the castle first of all where we had a pretty decent view of the town. Then it was on to Pullis Winery where we spent a very enjoyable couple of hours wine tasting, both from the barrel and the bottle. We ate at the Pullis restaurant where it was a six course meal with six accompanying wines. All in all an excellent evening.

Great British Lounge

Today I'm off to Slovenia. I'm flying bmi and this is the first time I've used their lounge. It's pretty similar to the ba one just a bit smaller. Interestingly the wallpaper, seating, coffe machines etc are all identical!

It's quite ironic really that I'm going to be presenting in Slovenia at the same time England are playing Slovenia in the world cup. Oh well, come on England!

Fish and chips then England!

Just waiting in the local chippy for the huge order of fish and chips I've just put in and then back to the house to watch England (hopefully) win comfortably against Algeria. Come on England!

Spudmuckers

This made me laugh. They're the latest BA in flight "snack".

Aberdeen

For the last couple of days I've been in Aberdeen. This was our work uk forum and I had a couple of presentations to do. It was held at the Mercure Ardoe hotel which I hadn't realised but I'd ben there to present previously. It's a nice place - a little tired maybe but not bad. Last night we ate at a redstaurant called Simpsons. It was supposed to be a steakhouse and to be fair, the steaks were excellent, however the decor dis not really lend itself to a steakhouse. It was all fake palm trees and ferns. Quite weird actually. Anyway all steakhouses are now compared with Keens in New York and all (so far) have paled in comparison...

World cup

Just sitting in Stuttgart airport watching the world cup start. Looks to be a cracking game and the stadium is packed. Come on England!!

Stuttgart

Today I am flying to Stuttgart. This is somewhere I've not been to before. I've given up with flying BA, I'm sticking with Star Alliance airlines from now on. Of course, this means I need to build up the airmiles again but in my opinion BA workers have lost the plot. There is no way any seious business traveller can afford to take a risk on flying BA unfortunately. On top of this you then have the general unhelpful nature of their cabin crew and call centre staff - quite suprising for a team supposedly paid the most in the industry.

Strange Indi

One thing Indi does do which is odd though is lie as though she's broken her leg! Can't be particularly comfortable surely?

Lazy malamutes

SJ took the dogs for a run this morning. She went early but it was still pretty warm. When they got back chief did his usual trick of lying down and drinking. I've never seen another dog do this. It's as if it's just too much effort for him to stand up and drink. Very comical. Interesting is that Indi does not, and has never done this...

Coming to the end of the week

It's been a good end to the week weather wise. Not bad temperature wise either. Tonight I've been sitting in the newly-mown garden just watching the world go by...
